Sewing machines distributed to unemployed women

BONGAIGAON, January 25: North Salmara Army Camp of Red Horns Division distributed 15 sewing machines to unemployed skilled women of Kiratanpara village in Bongaigaon district on Sunday. The under privileged women were selected from the village based on the required skills and fincial status as part of the Red Horns Division Sadbhava project.  Talking to media persons, an Army official said that the scheme was intended to empower the women at the grassroots level by providing them a job and livelihood that enhances their self– esteem. Bhupen Ray, MLA of North Abhayapuri constituency was present in this programme.  Addressing the gathering, Ray said that the Army had always been extending their helping hand to the people of Assam by organizing such activities.  “The women must take the opportunity to earn and improve the living standards of their family,” he said.
