Sexual assault case: Strict action demanded against accused

Dibrugarh, December 9: The Dibrugarh Police had arrested two persons regarding their alleged involvement in a sexual harassment case here on Monday. The apprehended duo are the Principal and Home Mother of a child care home, med as Smile Children Home (SCH), which is located, at Jibon Phukan gar.

The arrested persons Rubul Buragohain and Geetanjali Konwar, against whom a complaint was registered (Case No – 1010/15) by the Dibrugarh Police, have been sent to judicial custody, after being produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate on Tuesday.

Since Smile Home Care’s founding in the year 2010, minor boys and girls, rescued by police, social welfare organizations and women organizations, were being handed to SCH, and at present the home holds a total of 21 and 20 minor girls and boys. These girls and boys, rescued and sheltered in the home, were for a long time, being allegedly sexually harassed and tortured by Buragohain, and were not allowed to leave for their homes.

Buragohain, in his vicious activities, was being aided by Geetanjali Konwar as the abettor, even after being informed by the aggrieved children. Both the accomplices through coercion even forced the children to watch blue films.

The 36 children, who are now in a state of shock, have been placed under the strict observance and care of the administration and police officials, before being handed over to reliable authorities. The girls were sent for medical examition, after which they recorded their statement, in the court against the alleged sexual pestering.

Meanwhile, people from all quarters including the media have demanded severest punishment for the principal and his accomplice, who had been receiving a daily allowance of Rs 25 from the Central Government for providing food and shelter to the aggrieved minor kids of the home.

The District Jourlists Association (DJA) general secretary, Ratan Hazarika ; Greater Dibrugarh Press Club (GDPC) president , Bhushan Jyoti Handique ; joint secretary Ratul Buragohain, general secretary of Jatiyotabadi Yuba Parishad (JYP), Udayan Kumar Gogoi; president of Muttock Yuba Chatra Sanmilan (MYCS), Uday Shankar Mohan, district general secretary of Jatiyotabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (JYCP), Homen Gohain ; Muslim Yuba Parishad ; AMSU and several other organizations have insisted for Rubul Buragohain and Geetanjali Konwar’s speedy trial and rigorous sentence.
