FROM A REPORTER

SHILLONG, Dec 28: In the wake of sexual exploitation of a minor girl in the city, the Khun Hynniewtrep tiol Awakening Movement (KHM), State Youth Wing on Wednesday slammed the State government for not bringing strong laws to safeguard and protect the women population in the State from such exploitations and harassment. “The increasing exploitation and trafficking of young girls in the State as was found out by the police in an incident at Marvelene Inn should be strongly condemned,” Thomas Passah said in a statement issued here on today.

“We have been demanding from time to time from the government to bring in stronger laws to protect young women and children from such barbaric acts however the state government is not serious on this matter and this non-seriousness will only encourage the wrong doers,” he added.

He further said the mentioning of an MLA in the FIR filed by the minor girl will only pose more questions.

“If law makers are busy in unlawful activities then where will be give our trust,” he said while adding that the KHM state youth wing lauds the action taken by the SCPCR and supported the demand of the Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) for immediate arrest of the MLA and all those involved in the crime without any delay.
