SF-10 female commandos prove woman not inferior to man

SHILLONG, Oct 6: Breaking all barriers, more than 30 women of have completed the tough training of SF-10 of the Meghalaya police.   

Of the 250 specialist commandos belonging to the Special Force-10 (SF-10) of the Meghalaya police, 36 are women.

They proved worthy of themselves in the rigorous training of 15 months in every sphere of the job they desired.

There is no gender barrier to compete and to complete the training.

One of the women SF-10 Commando successfully bag two medals and the other headed the platoon parade by virtue of her outstanding performance during the 15-month training period.

Commando Pynjai Synkly is the female who has proved the point with two individual medals from amongst the lots of the newly raised SF-10 commando battalion.

 The certification comes from none other than the Chief Instructor of the SF-10 Brigadier (Retd) William J Sturgeon who said that the qualified women commandos matched every man in the newly inducted unit.

“They ran together with the men’s folks for 15, 20 and 25 Kms with the back packs that is just 5 kilograms (Kgs) lesser”, stated Sturgeon during an exclusive chat with The Sentinel even as he said that the five Kgs consideration for the women is part of the biological standards that physical strength of a man is superior than the woman.

“They (women) match with every male cadet and I am here to tell that they possesses all the combat wherewithal’s to be in any wanted operations against the hostile forces,” added Sturgeon.

“If a few could not make to the commando squads, it’s simply because of certain marks in the written examitions but they have been imbibed a training of a commando,” Sturgeon said while pointing out at the segregated males and females trained combatants who are now termed as Rangers.

With most of the post remained vacant due to the qualifying criteria, the mastermind of the SF-10 force expecting more women commandos in the next recruitment drive.

It is expected that the next recruitment will start by next month.

With no exemption of an out pass (holiday) after the passing out parade, all the SF-10 men have already been dispatched to their respective postings and all of them will be in the strife-torn Garo Hills district.
