SF-10 readies for counter insurgency operations

SHILLONG, June 23:  The Special Force-10 (SF-10) of the Meghalaya Police has been geared up to engage in counter insurgency operations.

The elite 369 odd cadets of Meghalaya police have already completed the three months basic police training.

The first batch of SF-10 cadets will have to go on with another three months training on riots and disaster magement.

Speaking to The Sentinel, the Chief Instructor on Commando Training of the newly raised SF-10, Brigadier (Retd) WR Sturgeon said, “The cadets including the 33 girls have been trained up to meet any situations and conditions that a commando may face.”

“They were trained in a module that they are the special force who could go beyond any trained commandos”, claimed Sturgeon who was himself a qualified instructor in Counter Insurgency operations.

Already 250 odd fresh cadets have been inducted for training, all of them undergoing the basic course. Nonetheless, all eyes are on the 350 odd cadets that will pass out, especially when they are the boys who have been specially trained to handle new equipments and to launching operations in jungle.

“They are equipped with what we have imbibed upon them and raring to go”, stated another instructor, a tiol Security Suard (NSG) training centre pass out.

A group of SF-10 have already deployed in Garo Hills in the me of training when the objective was to aid the counter insurgency team in flushing the militants from the thick jungles of East and South Garo Hills.

Sources said that the trained SWAT team will be absolved in the SF-10 team but they have to undergo another three months training as per the absorbed modules.
