GUWAHATI, July 4: Assam Chess prodigy Shahil Dey is leading the U-10 category with two points after two rounds along with a group of 12 players in the Commonwealth Chess Championship in New Delhi today.  On the other hand four state players Ashvin Sarma, Prangovinda Parasar Kashyap and voneel Choudhury are on one point after the completion of the first two rounds. In the U-12 Category, another rising star of Assam Dhrupad Kashyap lost his second round match on the top board against top seed S Rohith Krish of Tamil du. With this lose Dhrupad remains on one point. In the U-10 Girls category Aslesha Talukdar of Assam remains undefeated with 1.5 points after 2 rounds.

Meanwhile in the open category, where altogether 117 players including 64 title players are participating, stiff competition was witnessed right from the first round. Fourth seed Grand Master Ziaur Rahman of Bangladesh was tactically outplayed by tiol Junior Champion Kumar Gaurav of Bihar and defeated in 63 moves. Similarly GM Sahaj Grover, GM Pravin Thipsay, IM Thejkumar were held to a draw by much lower seeded players.

Altogether 581 players from the commonwealth tions are participating in this mega chess event organised by Delhi Chess Association and supported by Government of India, Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs.
