Sharmila re-arrested

IMPHAL, March 19: Irom Sharimila, the woman who has been on fast unto death since November 4, 2000 demanding the repeal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 was remanded to judicial custody till April 1. She was produeced in a local court yesferday. She is charged with attempting to commit suicide. However the district and session court had held her not guilty and ordered her release in the recent past. She continued her fast even after rlease. Police had rearrested her on the same charge. Sharmila denies the charge and says that she is using it as a weapon to achieve her goal.
