Shillong all set to welcome PM today

SHILLONG, Dec 15: Meghalaya is all set to host Prime Minister rendra Modi, who is visiting Shillong on Saturday, to address a political rally of the BJP, thereby setting the tone for party’s preparations for the upcoming Assembly polls.
It may be mentioned that this is the second visit of PM rendra Modi after becoming the Prime Minister, as last year he visited Shillong for two-days to address the 65th plery session of the North Eastern Council (NEC).
BJP leader JA Lyngdoh informed the reporters today that the programme will start   from 12 noon and comprise cultural programmes and speeches from party leaders.
Prime Minister rendra Modi is scheduled to   reach Polo 5th ground between 1 and 1.30 pm to address the rally. He is also expected to dedicate the Shillong-Nongstoin-Tura road to the tion besides iugurating the BJP office.
Lyngdoh said that they are expecting a minimum crowd of around 15,000 to 20,000 people.
While the BJP is tightlipped on the local leaders from the State who would share the dais with the Prime Minister, it is speculated that AL Hek, Sanbor Shullai and Robinus Syngkon will be sharing the podium with the Prime Minister. On the other hand, the State Security forces are tightlipped over the   security arrangements on PM’s visit to the State.
The Shillong Traffic Police on Friday afternoon conducted a mock drill for traffic magement in view of the PM’s visit and different areas of the town witnessed huge traffic jams following the   drill. Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills District in Shillong said that the general public attending the public rally are prohibited to carry items like sharp objects, umbrellas, cigarettes, lighters and match boxes, water bottles, lethal weapons, etc., inside the venue for security reasons.
