Shillong bids farewell to Kalam

Meghalaya Governor, State Assembly Speaker and State Home Minister accompanied the body to Guwahati before being flown to New Delhi’s Palam Airport

SHILLONG, July 28: The mortal remains of former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam was given a ceremonial sendoff at the Air force Advanced Landing Ground (ALG), Upper Shillong on Tuesday early morning.

Governor V Shamugathan, Meghalaya Assembly Speaker AT Mondal and the Home Minister Roshan Warjri were the first to pay tributes to the ‘Missile man’ who choose Shillong to end his earthly journey. Scores of other top people including those from the different set up of the state Executive, legislature, the judiciary and the defense establishments paid floral tributes to the body of A.P.J Kalam before the ceremonial guard of honour and send off through the special MI-17 Helicopter of the Indian Air Force.
