Shillong boy selected for U-16 AFC Cup

SHILLONG, Dec 20: A local youth Ricky John Shabong resident of Laitlyngkot, East Khasi Hills District, has been selected to represent India in the U-16 AFC Cup which will  be held in Iran next year.

Shabong son of Timothy Khongsam and Ialin Shabong was also facilitated by the United Democratic Party (UDP) Iewshyllong Unit on Tuesday for his achievements at the closing ceremony of the 1st MLA Cup Football Tourment at Elaka Laitlyngkot football ground.

“Everything that I have achieved today is all because of my dedication and hard work since my early years and this was one reason I got selected to represent my country,” Shabong said.

He expressed his gratitude towards his coach who had guided him right from the time when he was associated with Royal Wahingdoh FC. “I want to urge other youths in the state aspiring to play and make a career out of football that they should stay clear from bad habits like smoking, chewing of beetle nut and any other intoxicant,” he said.
