Speaking to The Sentinel, Urban Affairs Minister Ronnie V Lyngdoh, however, said that the government is still examining the matter relating to the prevalent mece of stray dogs and if needed the government will invite NGOs or animal lovers to partner with the government to rectify the problem.

“If there is any NGOs or animal lovers who can partner with the government then we will look into it and maybe the government can even support in setting up shelter homes for stray dogs if such social organization who are into the welfare of animals approaches the government,” he said.

He further said that the department will study the matter concerning stray dogs and if fincial implication is there in setting up the shelter home then the government will have to look into that angle also.

“Maybe we can take the help of NGOs because even if we can provide shelter homes for stray dogs we will still need people to look after it in the capacity of volunteers,” he said adding that individuals or group needs to come forward since it’s not possible for the government to do everything on its own.

Admitting that stray dogs are a threat to the people of state, he said, “We have to look into certain laws and how the laws can be implemented to check on the growing number of stray dogs.”

Stating that the increasing number of stray dogs poses health hazard to the citizen of the state he said the government will look into the matter since some dogs might even be carrying rabies.
