Shillong gets another 'Smart' classroom

SHILLONG, July 6: The Government Boys Higher Secondary School is the second school in the State to avail the ‘Smart Classroom of the Future’, an initiative of the State Government which was formally iugurated on Monday by Home MinisterRoshan Warjri.

Addressing the occasion, Warjri said, “We are fortute that the government has sanctioned these smart classes for digital class rooms in various government schools in the State”.

Warjri informed that for the first phase, the Digital classes will be provided for more than thirty Government schools and in the second phase, the Digital classes will be for the deficit schools and government aided schools.

 “Introduction of technology also enhances and acknowledges the skills not only of the students but also the teachers,” she said, adding that such technology will not only change the students in their capacity of learning but also teachers.

She also said that trainers and experts have already visited the school and has trained teachers in this area.

She also urged students to be focused, sincere and headstrong and have the integrity of character and not to be swayed by bad habits.

Meanwhile, DP Wahlang, Commissioner and Secretary of IT department said that the school should be proud to have availed this important initiative of the government.

“This is a very important step we have taken in the State and this initiative which is being taken by the Information and Technology (IT) Department is vital because we have to move forward with the changing of time,” Wahlang said.

Stating that the dream of the Information and Technology (IT) Department is to make the students digitally empowered Wahlang said, “In a few years time we are planning to initiate a scheme which will eble all students to come to school with tablets and making the classroom more digital,” adding that this will be a real test for the State Government to make this dream come true.
