Shillong Lajong face East Bengal in semis today

SHILLONG, Sept 27: Shillong Lajong FC will take on East Bengal in the semi-fils match of the 64th Bharat Rat Lokapriya Gopith Bordoloi Trophy 2016 on Wednesday at the Nehru Stadium in Guwahati.

The Lajong youngsters who are placed in Group A played their first game against Oil India which ended in a 1-1 draw and won their second match against Bharat FC 5-0 on 21st September.

Lajong are heading into tomorrow’s clash after playing out a 1-1 draw against Three Star Club on 25th September.

Isaac and Milan Basumatary scored three goals each while Samuel Lalmuanpuia netted one.

Speaking to Shillong Lajong FC Head Coach Thangboi Singto said, “I am very happy that the boys have entered the semi-fils. They have played good football but we need to play good football consistently for 90+minutes.”

“We are ready for East Bengal. We need to hold strongly and confidently at the back, control midfield and convert our chances. If we are able to do all of this then we have a good chance to win,” he said.

He said, overall it will be a tough match but the boys are in good form with good spirits and I believe they will do well.

Meanwhile, East Bengal FC had put up a brilliant display and won all their group B matches. They won 6-0 against Bongoboi Oragami club – Bangladesh, beat United Sikkim 2-0 and won 3-0 against ASEB Sports Club Guwahati.

East Bengal’s South Korean striker Do Dong netted three goals, Adileja and Prohlad Roy netted two goals while, Yami Longvah, Murmu, Jiten and Nikhil Poojary scored one each.

An interesting football encounter awaits the football lovers at the Nehru Stadium in Guwahati on Wednesday. Both teams will look to deliver their best in the hope to advance to the fils stage of the tourment.
