Shillong Lajong pip Shillong United

SHILLONG, Oct 20: Shillong Lajong FC scored 6 goals against Shillong United FC in the return fixture of the Shillong Premier League in what was a spectacular display of football by the Young Reds of Lajong on Tuesday at the JN Stadium Shillong. Lajong won the match by a scoreline of 6-2.

Samuel Lalmuanpuia tops the highest goal scorer list in this season of the Shillong Premier League as he takes his tally to a total of 9 goals after scoring a hat trick twice this season.

It was in the 15th minute of the match that Samuel opened the account for Lajong after a cross from Bipin on the left led to an easy tap in. Shillong United equalised in the 26th minute through a header from Kitbok Pale.

Lajong wasted no time in regaining the lead when Lalrammua converted a through ball from Rupert in the 31st minute. The Youngsters of Lajong continued to domite the proceedings but the first half ended 2-1 in favour of Lajong.

The second session started off brightly for Shillong United and they were awarded with a goal for their persistence in the 47th minute when a Lajong Defender idvertently put the ball in his own net.

The fighting spirit and strong will power of Thangboi’s Boys was evident as they pressed hard to regain the lead in the match and they did so when Samuel found himself free inside the box to give his side the lead again in the 60th minute.

Samuel who was on fire scored his hat trick in the 66th minute with an excellent curling shot to beat the keeper. Lajong were leading with four goals and were looking very confident with controlling possession in the game.

The Reds attacking display was absolutely impressive as they scored two more goals in the 80th and 91st minute courtesy Rupert Nongrum and Lalrammua respectively.

Lajong are boosted with new record this season as Samuel is the highest goal scorer so far this (9 goals) having scored a hat trick in two matches.

After this victory, Lajong remain on top of the table with 26 points and will play their next match on the 26th October against ngkiew Irat.
