Shillong Lajong thrash GTC

SHILLONG, Nov 5: Shillong Lajong FC beat Guwahati Town Club 2-0 in the Under-16 Youth League at Mawlai Ground Shillong on Saturday.

The Junior Reds almost took the lead in the 12th minute when Donbok beat the Guwahati defence and made a good run inside the box and fired a powerful shot but the keeper saved the ball from entering the net.

The boys continued to add a lot of pressure on the Guwahati Town Club defence and Donbok again fired another shot in the 5th minute but it hit the post. Shillong Lajong Academy boys filly opened the account when Samuel Kynshi's cross found Burnes who slotted the ball home in the 21st minute.

They continued to push ahead and then doubled the lead in the 32nd minute of the game. Samuel who assisted the first goal also registered his me in the score sheet as his shot entered the top right corner of the net.

In the 64th mintute, Lajong came very close to score their third goal but Parvaj's shot from outside the box was saved by the Guwahati keeper. GTC got a free kick in the 68th minute but the players failed to make full use of it and wasted their chance. They received another free kick in the 79th minute but the Lajong players easily cleared it away.

GTC boys also started to combine pretty well with each other and were trying to create a few chances for themselves in the closing stages of the game. But their players lacked the quality and finish in today's game. The referee gave Shillong Lajong FC Academy Boys the three points for their 2-0 win over GTC today.

Shillong Lajong will play their next game on November 10 against SAI at SAI Ground.
