Shillong Midnight Festival kicks off

SHILLONG, Dec 31: Shillong city came alive even before midnight through the official musical gig to welcome New Year. Known as the Shillong Midnight Festival (SMF), the musical extravaganza at Polo Parking Lot kick stated in a befitting manner.

With the theme  “Peace, Harmony & Progress” and “Keep Meghalaya Clean & Green in 2016”, the prelimiry rounds of performance includes the music belt by the bands that live up on the theme and spirit of the New year celebration.

Shillong has always had its share of New Year’s Eve festivities but the city came together in a way never seen before to usher in the coming of 2016 with celebrations.

Till filing of this report, thousands of people have poured into the festival venue and it is expected to reach a climax by midnight.  

The idea behind the festival is for it to add to Meghalaya’s tourist potential and act as a confluence of local music, dance and food in the heart of the city.
