Shillong Midnight Festival to mark last day of 2016

SHILLONG, Dec 29: After two immensely successful editions that have made it a highlight of the region’s social calendar, the Shillong Midnight Festival returns on December 31 at the Polo Grounds as locals and tourists alike will celebrate the culture and musical talent of Meghalaya while ushering in the year 2017.

While Meghalaya is slowly establishing itself as a destition for tural sights and experiences, the Shillong Midnight Festival is part of the efforts to make it a destition for culture. Along with being a tourism and cultural showcase, the Shillong Midnight Festival provides a modern, safe, diverse and entertaining platform for the communities of the town to share and celebrate together.

This year’s music line up for the Shillong Midnight Festival is made up of mes from across the vast and multi genre music scene of the city. This celebration of youth, music and culture will be represented by artistes that define Shillong’s appreciation of a good beat.

A band that needs no introduction, Soulmate has enthralled fans across the world and put Shillong on the global blues map. Rudy, Tipriti and the gang are home now and will take the stage on the brightest night of the year. Get ready for riveting vocals and soul stripping guitar work as the blues scorch the festival.

Shillong’s very own super group - Instinct plays an eclectic mix of music rooted in jazz, funk and folk. Enjoy this technical supremacy and improvisation fused musical conjuring by Amarth, Dold, Riko and Shaun at the Shillong Midnight Festival stage.

Dossers Urge’s unique brand of rock music will be on show at the Shillong Midnight Festival. Winners of the Road to Converse Rubber Tracks file, the Kom brothers will be entertaining crowds with tracks that draw from psychedelic and punk influences amongst many other eclectic inspirations.

Mellow Fellows is a talent packed ensemble that represents the future of Meghalaya’s music scene. With young representatives from diverse musical backgrounds, they have been designing music and complimenting each others’ styles to create origilly modern sounds that are an amalgamation of reggae, blues and pop.

Dajied Folk Fusion is on the forefront of fusion music in the city. This group of musicians plays the traditiol Khasi instruments to make soulful and energetic origil renditions. They will be showcasing Meghalaya’s rich musical culture on the Shillong Midnight Festival stage.

Notes of A’rronga are a band of 5 members that play an exclusive blend of western music and traditiol instruments with powerful vocals that evoke the indigenous melodies of the Garo Hills. The band me means ‘Notes of the Hill People’ and this set of musicians will be captivating audiences on the Shillong Midnight Festival stage come the 31st of December.

DJ Favian is one of the most popular entertainers in Shillong’s burgeoning nightlife scene. A party favourite across the North Eastern region, Favian is ready to bring his game to the biggest stage of the year at the festival’s EDM extravaganza.

Another of Shillong’s famous electronic music persolities, DJ Kck started his art as a teen. The spotlight will be on him at the Shillong Midnight Festival, as he entertains the audience with his choice of EDM, progressive house, hip-hop and trap.

In continuation of the themes of previous editions, the themes for this year’s Shillong Midnight Festival will be “Peace, Harmony & Progress” and “Keep Meghalaya Clean & Green” in 2017.

The Shillong Midnight Festival will bring people together from different walks of life from Shillong and beyond, making the first theme relevant and a poignt message to start 2017 with.

Initiated by the Chief Minister of Meghalaya Dr Mukul Sangma, the Shillong Midnight Festival is presented by the District Arts and Culture Society, East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya.
