Shillong RTI activist questions HNLC

FROM A REPORTER

SHILLONG, June 7: Disparsing Rani, a Shillong based RTI activist has questioned the banned outfit Hynniewtrep tiol Liberation Council (HNLC) about their motive behind threatening MPCC office as well as demanding change in state leadership, while reverting to his decision to be interlocutor for peace talks with the government.

It may be recalled that Rani was nomited as interlocutor by the banned outfit to carry out peace talks with the government. Talking to media on Tuesday, Rani said, “Despite nomiting me as interlocutor, they (HNLC) are continuing to threat the state by different means. So, I want to officially take back my earlier decision to be the interlocutor for peace talks with the state and Central Government as request by the HNLC.” “They (HNLC) should allow me to handle the peace talks since they nomited me as interlocutor. Because it is going to be hard for me to approach the state government,” he said. He further said that he was also invited by the DGP crime branch for talks on June 3.  “The Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has been able to bring forward many banned outfit groups from Garo Hills for peace talks. So, why can’t he do the same thing with the HNLC being the only militant outfit from Khasi and Jaintia hills?” he questioned.
