Shiva to attend Diamond Jubilee Celebration of Rilbong club

SHILLONG, Sept 7: Olympian boxer Shiva Thapa will grace the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Rilbong Sports & Cultural Club, one of the noted youth organisations of Meghalaya, at the All-Shillong Boxing competition which is scheduled for September 14.

The tourment, which is being organised in collaboration with Meghalaya Boxing Association, will be held at the Rilbong Ground. The fils are slated for September 16.

Shiva Thapa, who is the only pugilist from the Northeast to qualify for Rio Olympics , will formally iugurate the tourment. He has been requested to briefly participate in a demonstration bout to serve as an inspiration for the local boxers.

In a press release issued by the Club President Mas Chaudhuri, it was stated that the calendar of events for the jubilee celebrations will also include a 10-km Marathon (September 24), vibrant Dances of India (October 6), NE Junior Table Tennis tourment (date yet to be filised), Veterans’ badminton tourment (end-November), food festival(December 3) and a Youth Festival (December 10).

The press release said that invitation has been extended to sports celebrity Sourav Ganguli to inspire the youth at the Youth Festival. The September 24 Marathon has been designed to absorb a thousand runners—men, women, and children (under-14) having handsome cash prizes, medals and certificates.
