Shivaratri celebrated in Sivasagar amidst sea of humanity

SIVASAGAR, Feb 24: Sivasagar breaks into a sea of humanity as the ancient Ahom capital town is observing the annual Shivratri with traditiol fanfare. The historic town today was abuzz with nearly 2 lakhs pilgrims from the state and the country, who thronged to catch a glimpse of the utsav and mela.

The Shiva Doul premises recorded a huge number of footfalls, as devotees made a beeline since early morning. Though the temple magement committee with the help of the district administration put up barricades to regulate the crowds, they had faced a tough time controlling crowd, as pilgrims queued up to offer puja to Lord Shiva from early morning.

Amid tight security arrangement, devotees are remaining in long queue at the Shiv temple premises to offer pujas to the Lord Shiva from early in the morning. The district administration has been closely monitoring the situation to ensure normalcy during the festival which will end on Sunday.

Apart from the Shivdol premises, the tural attraction is the fair and exhibitions with thousands of stalls by the entrepreneurs. Cultural functions were also lined up towards the evening. The district administration has made some changes in the roads for normal traffic movement in view of the heavy rush of devotees in the festival.
