Shivaratri Utsav and Mela concludes

SIVASAGAR, Feb 27: The four-day Shivaratri Utsav and Mela organized by Shiv Doul Unyan Parishad, with the support of Sivasagar district administration, concluded here on Sunday.

To mark the valedictory function, a meeting was organized at the Shiv Doul premises with Ganga Prasad Borgohain, working president of Shiv Doul Unyan Parishad in the chair. Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, Sivasagar Superintendent of Police Subodh Sonowal said, “Shiva Doul and the Borpukhuri (Sivasagar Tank), constructed by Queen Ambika Konwari, have always been the centre of attraction for the devotees. Shivaratri Utsav and Mela here is unique in its own way. It is our responsibility to keep this tradition alive for our coming generations, so that they can take pride in their glorious past.”

Nripen Bhattacharya, public relations officer of NF Railways, while attending the occasion as a distinguished guest, stated that Shivaratri festival here in Sivasagar had its own significance. “It exhibits the rich cultural heritage and religious harmony of the region, and altogether provides an opportunity of get-together for people from various parts of the country,” Bhattacharya said.

Present among others on the occasion were Sivasagar District Development Commissioner Abhijit Baruah, Additiol Deputy Commissioner Tapan Gohain, Sibsagar Commerce College Principal Dr Saumarjyoti Mahanta, ATASU leader Aswini Chetia and other prominent persons of the town.
