Shivratri Mela under way at Shri Shri Gupteswar Temple

DHEKAIJULI, Feb 25: The week-long Shivratri Mela at the Shri Shri Gupteswar Temple, Singri began on Friday. It was iugurated by Tezpur MP, Ram Prasad Sharma and the iugural session was attended by Dhekiajuli MLA Ashok Singhal, Borsola MLA Ganesh Limbu and other religious and

social leaders. The week-long celebration will conclude on March 1.

The Gupteswar Temple  premises was full of devotees who had lined up  to offer prayers to Lord Shiva. Shri Shri Gupteswar Temple, Singri is a prehistoric temple of Lord Shiva. It is believed that the temple was constructed by King Ba of Sonitpur. It is also said that a cow of Sankarveva’s father used to give milk here, which led Kushumbar Bhuyan (father of Sri Sri Sankardeva) to worship Lord Shiva for a son, who was med after the Lord as Sankara (a me of Lord Shiva).

Gupteswar  Devalaya Unyan Samity generak secretary,  Tulsi Borthakur in a press statement said that  adequate arrangement had been made for devotees in the temple campus.  Meanwhile, the district administration has made adequate security arrangements for the peaceful celebration of Shivratri Mela.
