Shocker for Congress

Itagar, Jan 3: In a shocker for the Congress in Aruchal Pradesh, two out of three Congress MLAs on Monday joined the BJP reducing the strength of the party to one in a house of 60.

The state assembly has accepted the defection of the MLAs including Wanglin Sawin representing Khonsa East constituency and Gabriel Denwang Wangshu (Kanubari) from Congress to BJP and accordingly published in its bulletin. Both the MLAs who resigned from their posts on September 20, 2015 under mysterious circumstances and accordingly the then assembly speaker bam Rebia accepted their resigtion. However, they challenged the decision in the High Court stating that their sigture was taken under mysterious circumstance by the then Chief Minister bam Tuki.

The MLAs were reinstated as the member of the Sixth Legislative Assembly by Speaker Tenzing Norbu Thongdok on September 23 last year, after the Gauhati High Court directed the Speaker to take up their case under Constitutiol provisions. With their joining, the strength of the BJP rose to 49 with support from one of its associate member and an independent, while the Congress now is being represented by former Chief Minister bam Tuki and Peoples’ Party of Aruchal has 10 MLAs.
