Shop owners asked not to charge more during natural calamities

Silchar, May 12: Heavy rainfall which had been lashing Barak Valley for the past few days has resided for now. But it had already created havoc in the entire Lakhipur sub division. During the period of such natural calamities, there is a general tendency of the shop owners and shop keepers to increase the rates of the commodities. In a bid to check this, J R Lalsim, ADC Cachar and SDO (Civil), Lakhipur, has asked them not to do so.

Shop owners have been directed to hang a board before their shops mentioning the items available along with its right prices. Dilip Roy, in-charge, Food and Civil Supply department, Lakhipur and sub inspector J K Doley have been asked to frequent these shops. Severe punishment will be rewarded if any shop owner or shop keeper is found to be involved in such activities. They visited the shops of Pailapool, Fulertal, Lakhipur and Binnakandi.
