Shopian Encounter: Five Terrorists Shot Dead by Security Forces in Shopian, Lashkar Operative Shot Dead

Srinagar: The security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have gunned down five dreaded terrorists, including a wanted terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba operative in Shopian area of Jammu and Kashmir.

Heavily armed terrorists were attacked by the Security Forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian and during the encounter, five of the terrorists were gunned down. The encounter happened 55 kilometers from Srinagar on Friday night and continued till the early hours today.

As per reports, four out of the five terrorists were gunned down today morning, while the body of another terrorist who was gunned down on Friday night at Shopian's Kiloora village has been recovered along with an AK-47 assault rifle. The police said that the slain terrorist has been identified as Umar Malik, a Lashkar-e-Taiba operative.

The police further told media that a civilian was also killed amid stone-pelting by the agitated locals.

Meanwhile, the area has been heavily cordoned off by the armed forces after intelligence inputs hinted at the presence of terrorists in the village.

Police further added that an intense search operation had been carried out and during the combing operation, the terrorists fired at the armed personnel which led to a full-scale encounter.

Following the success of the operation, Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu & Kashmir tweeted “4 more bodies of terrorists visible at encounter site kiloora Shopian taking the total to 5 terrorists killed. Good Job boys, good for peace.”
