Shops gutted in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, November 25: In a devastating fire that broke out at Gaurang Tiniali market, 12 km North of Kokrajhar town on Tuesday evening, five shops were gutted while others were saved due to timely intervention of fire services. The fire broke out at around 8.30 pm. Short circuit was suspected to have caused the fire. Local people alleged that the fire broke out due to the negligence of certain shop owners. They said most of the shops had no safety norms of electricity wiring and many of them depended on hooking that led to the accidental short circuit. They also said the fire services arrived immediately after the information and could save a number of shops. As many as three fire brigade vehicles were pressed into service to douse the fire. Property worth several lakhs was destroyed in the fire.
