Shops, houses gutted in fire at Daporijo

Itagar, Aug 31: A massive fire destroyed several shops and houses at Daporijo on Wednesday, rendering 87 families homeless. Upper Subansiri Deputy Commissioner AK Singh said no human casualty had been reported in the fire, whose cause is yet to be ascertained. Three fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the fire. Members of the market committee joined police, ITBP, CRPF and GREF in relief and rescue operation. The victims have been sheltered in District Urban Development Agency market complex building that was turned into a makeshift relief camp. Chief Minister Pema Khandu has sought immediate report from the district administration and directed all departments concerned to provide reliefs and rehabilitation to the victims. He has also sought detail report on the damages caused and loss of property in the inferno.
