Doomdooma, July 9: As a part of celebration of its silver jubilee, Sadou Axom Lekhika Samaroh Samity, Doomdooma Branch organized a short story reading competition amongst the members of nine branches under its Tinsukia District Committee on Sunday. Altogether 20 participants who took part in the competition read out their short stories which were reviewed by Sahitya Akademi award-winning dramatist Harendra Nath Barthakur and Benu Bora, former Vice-Principal of Doomdooma College. The programme got underway with a theme song of the Doomdooma Branch Lekhika Samaroh Samity beautifully rendered by Jinu Gohain, Indrani Bezbaruah, Runumoni Dutta Bhuyan and Kakoli Devi Baruah.

Thereafter, secretary Junumoni Bora explained the objectives of the meeting followed by welcome address by president Dr Mina Devi Baruah. Reviewer Benu Bora narrated about the characteristics of short stories and said that it was a great art while the other reviewer, Harendra Nath Barthakur opined that this art form developed in India after the British arrived, and Assamese literature had a rich tradition of it. Four short-story writers were selected for prizes. They will receive their prizes in the concluding silver jubilee celebration function slated to be held on December 25.
