JOYSAGAR, July 25: The Chief Minister’s office served a showcause letter to the authorities of the Sivasagar Municipal Board (SMB) on Tuesday regarding the allegations of the employees and workers that they were being deprived of regular monthly salary for about 13-15 months. Sivasagar Municipal Board sources said that the SMB authorities had visited the family of the worker who had committed suicide under dire financial crisis. Some SMB officials and representatives went to the house of Ghana Kanta Gogoi on Tuesday and offered Rs. 20,000 to his wife. The SMB workers’ union has thanked the media as after the publication of the news of the worker’s suicide, the Chief Minister’s office took the matter seriously and asked the authorities as well as the district administration about the actual status of the strength of the SMB and about the revenue it earned. Conscious citizens and many organizations have demanded a judicial probe into the suicide of the SMB worker and also demanded to constitute an enquiry into the alleged misappropriation of SMB fund.
