Shuklabaidya inspects condition of NH 15

MANGALDAI, May 5: PWD Minister Parimal Shuklabaidya in his daylong visit to the district of Darrang on Friday witnessed the deplorable condition of the NH-15-the lifeline of Northern bank of river Brahmaputra connecting Aruchal Pradesh passing through the district. Talking to the media he said, “I have seen the deplorable state of the NH. I have come here to review this state of the NH and to take necessary steps so that we may provide proper roads for people to travel. In fact I should have come earlier.”

Justifying the delay in construction of the road he observed that necessary sanction has been accorded following the submission of the DPR.

“It took more time as in case of the NH, the State PWD can’t do everything of their own; it needs some involvement of the Central Government too,” he said.  He assured that the 45km long stretch of the NH-15 across the district to improve the riding quality by repairing of the big pot holes within next fifteen days against the origil work of construction to be started only after around next couple of months. Referring to a question regarding the long negligence of a section of contractors in completion of their assigned works, the Minister responded with promise of action against such erring contractors and said, “We have already issued notices to many such contractors and very soon will introduce guidelines so that those contractors can never be able to work in the department in future.”

Issues relating to the legitimate demand to shift the NH-15 Division from Rangiya to Mangaldai,  construction of a bypass of the NH outside the Mangaldai town , re-creation of the Building Division at Mangaldai, inquiry into the poor quality of work of the modern fish market at Mangaldai, action against the mass illegal selling of IMFL when all the outlets of IMFL in the district have been closed down following the Apex Court order, demand for a major reshuffle in the staff and officials in Darrang Excise for their alleged unholy nexus with  the illegal liquor traders etc were also brought to the notice of the minister who is  in charge of the department of Excise and Fisheries, were also raised by the media persons. Several public organizations including AASU and AJYCP submitted memoranda to the minister in this regard.

The Minister earlier held a review meeting at the circuit house with the higher officials of the State PWD Department including Chief Engineer, PWD (Roads), Chief Engineer, PWD (NH), Chief Engineer, (NEC & Border), in presence of legislators of Mangaldai and Kalaigaon Gurujyoti Das and Maheswar Boro respectively and Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kr Barman.

 On his way from Guwahati the Minister also made a field visit to Aulachowka and Bonglagarh to make an on spot assessment of the progress of undergoing work in Rangamati-Aulachowka-Kalaigaon and Bongalagarh-Jaberikuchi road under Assam Road Maintence Fund and NLCPR respectively.
