Shylla officially announces his resigtion from UDP

SHILLONG, June 11: The former KHADC CEM and present MDC from Nongkrem constituency Hispreaching Son Shylla, after falling out with the party, on Sunday officially announced his resigtion from the United Democratic Party (UDP).

The inevitable resigtion came after Shylla was not content with the party leadership as he had alleged that the pre-poll alliance between UDP-HSPDP was done in a hush-hush manner without consulting other party leaders.

Earlier, Shylla had even suggested that the UDP needs to remove Dr Donkupar Roy from the president’s post if the party is looking for a better show in the upcoming Meghalaya Assembly elections in 2018.

“The UDP had decided not to field any candidate in Nongkrem constituency or in any other constituency, the HSPDP is contesting. Hence I have no other choice but to resign from the party as on June 6, my supporters had demanded that I should not sit out the upcoming election but should contest it as the people had elected me as an MDC in the by-elections and will make me victorious in the MLA elections in 2018,” Shylla said on Sunday.

On the allegations made by HSPDP that he had offered to join the party, Shylla clarified that he had no intention to join the HSPDP.

Shylla has slammed the pre-poll alliance between UDP-HSPDP, while stating that he had opted for an alliance between all the regiol party in the state ahead of the 2018 polls and not just the two parties.

“What I had always wanted was the alliance of all the four regiol parties (UDP-HSPDP-KHM and PDF) in the state however that dream was tarnished when the alliance was announced that there was only an alliance between the UDP and HSPDP,” he said.

He added, “If an invitation was sent to both the KHM and PDF for the alliance and they had rejected it then that is something else but nothing was communicated to the two other regiol parties.”
