Speaking to The Sentinel via phone, working president of UDP Paul Lyngdoh said, “This is not the first time he (Shylla) has threatened to quit the party.”
When asked on Shylla’s demand for the immediate resigtion of the party chief Donkupar Roy for allegedly destroying the party due to the recent pre-poll alliance with the HSPDP, Lyngdoh said, “That is his persol opinion, however the party had made the decision for the alliance for the larger interest of the people of the state of Meghalaya.”
It may be mentioned that Shylla had also informed that a committee has been formed to decide on the matter as to from which party, he would be contesting in 2018.
Meanwhile, when The Sentinel contacted senior leader of the UDP, Bindo M Lanong on this issue, he said, “When he (Shylla) has formed a committee to suggest from which party he will contest the 2018 polls which means that he is no longer with the UDP.”
Asked on the demand of Shylla for change in leadership within the party, Lanong said, “If he has decided to leave the party then his opinion has no meaning and does not carry any weight.”
