Sib leads Assam to take lead

GUWAHATI, Jan 6: A  solid knock from left handed batsman Sib Sankar Roy helped Assam to earn good 98 runs lead against Services in the group ’C’ Ranji trophy match held at the Barsapara stadium today. In reply to Services first innings total of 113, home team finished the second day at 211–8.

The day was undoubtedly belonged Sib Sankar Roy who played a well composed knock of 81 runs. It was only because of him that Assam maged to get big lead in this game even though team’s top order once again failed to click.

Captain Dheeraj Jadhav, who was out of form this season, was dropped in the batting order today and it was Parvez Aziz who accompanied Pallav Das to open the innings. But the decision was not worked as both Pallav and Parvez returned quickly. Even Dheeraj (3), who came into bat on number five position, continued his poor form.

Assam lost two early wickets to stumble to 17 for 2 before Roy and Arun Karthik (34) led a recovery with a 58–run. Sib Sankar looked rock solid in the middle of the wicket and played patience knock. His 81 runs came in 192 balls with the help of six boundaries and two over boundaries. But he was hard–pressed to find solid support at the other end. Apart from Sib Sankar and Arun Karthick,  J Syed Mohammad was the other batsman who was successful to create little problems to the opponent bowlers. Syed remained not out at 32 when the day’s play came to an end. He was giving accompany by Arup Das (0).

Earlier Services, who began day two 102 for 8, could add only 11 more runs to that score, as they were bundled out 113. Arup Das was the pick of Assam’s bowlers, collecting 5 for 40, while Krish Das chipped in with 3 for 21.
