Siejlieh inhabitants oppose BSF's camp set up proposal

FROM A REPORTER

NONGSTOIN, Sept 4: Inhabitants of Siejlieh village have raised their objection to a proposal by the BSF to set up a temporary camp at Siejlieh - Mawiaban village under Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills district. Soon after receiving information, the Dorbar Shnong of Siejlieh on Saturday arranged an urgent meeting to discuss the matter. During the discussion, village headman SK Thongni expressed his deep concern since no one has informed the Dorbar Shnong before selecting the site for the BSF camp. The meeting was also attended by local MDC L.G. Nongsiej along with D. Jyndiang MLA of Nongstoin, among others. Expressing strong opposition to the move, L.G. Nongsiej urged the Deputy Commissioner to desigte the BSF camp somewhere in border areas. Meanwhile MLA of Nongstoin D. Jyndiang said, “We are opposed to the BSF camp in the heart of Nongstoin town since we do not see any justification in having a camp of a paramilitary force in a peaceful area like Nongstoin”. He also said this is not the first time that the BSF wants to set up its camp in West Khasi Hills, but this time without informing the Dorbar Shnong, the BSF has started to clean the site to set up their temporary camp.
