Sikkim: Governor Ends Three Day Tour of North Sikkim

Guwahati: Governor of Sikkim, Ganga Prasad who was on a three day tour of North Sikkim celebrated Diwali with officers and jawans of the Black Cat Division of the Indian Army at Libing in Gangtok on Wednesday.

According to an official press release, GOC Black Cat Division Major General N S Raja Subramani, officers and other ranks of the division were present on the occasion. The Governor distributed sweets and extended Diwali greetings to everyone present on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor said it was due to the sacrifices made by the personnel of the armed forces that their countrymen get to celebrate festivals and other occasions with the utmost sense of security and peace.

Prasad further added that the common folk should acknowledge the contributions of the armed forces in keeping the country safe.

Expressing his happiness to be among the members of the armed forces on the occasion, the Governor urged everyone to find time to celebrate festivals with the personnel of the armed forces who have prioritized country over self and family.

Governor also held an interactive session with the district officials at Zilla Bhawan, Mangan.

During the interactive meeting with the officials, the heads of departments in the district gave a brief power point presentation on the schemes and works of their departments. The status of departments such as Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Education, ICDS, Health, Roads & Bridges, Telecommunications, Power, Rural Development and Border Roads were reviewed by the Governor.

Prasad while lauding the efforts of Chief Minister Pawan Chamling for making the State a fully organic State stated that the organic farming was one of the most important contributions of State. He also urged all the officials to implement the policy with full vigor and ensure that the farmer gets a platform to sell their products in the important metros of the country

He further said that the departments should now work on food processing and use the newly built Pakyong Airport in the state for supplying organic products to important cities.

Meanwhile, earlier in the day, the Governor also conducted a small interactive session with the business community of Mangan.

The Governor while addressing the business community stated that the community should work for the improvement of the State and ensure that the peaceful environment is protected and preserved. He also said that he can be approached whenever there is an issue to be resolved.

The Governor's three-day North Sikkim tour concluded with the Governor expressing his satisfaction and happiness with the tour. He stated the all the grievances of the public would be appropriately dealt by him and will continue to visit and meet the people of the State in the near future
