The two States of the region mely Aruchal Pradesh (Rs 12,3339) and Mizoram (Rs 11,4524) are also ahead of the tiol average, while the rest of theNE States are lagging behind. They are Assam (Rs 60,526), Manipur (Rs 55,603), Meghalaya (Rs 71,318), galand (Rs 83,621) and Tripura (80,027).
This was revealed in the documents submitted in the first meeting of the Northeast NITI Forum held at Agartala on April 10. The per capita income was calculated on the basis of data collected during the fincial year 2015-16 taking 2011-12 as the base year.
Experts say Sikkim’s rise in the per capita income proves the effectiveness of the State tourism industry as the economy of the hilly State is fully dependent on the tourism industry. The other States despite having ample possibilities including tourism failed to utilize their potential, experts added.
Talking about Tripura, they said that the State had a stable government for the last 25 years but the Left Front’s ignorance to accept any modern technology were mainly responsible for its low per capita income as the State has failed to utilize the huge tourism potential.
As per the statistics, Tripura stands at fifth position among the Northeastern states in the per capita income.
