Silchar Book Fair (Boi Mela) from December 14

Silchar: The 12-day 27th Silchar Book Fair (Boi Mela) will commence from December 14. The Book Fair will continue till December 25. In a bid to smoothen and quicken the steps necessary for making arrangements for the fair, a new working committee was formed at a meeting held in the PWD guest house of this town on Sunday. The meeting was presided over by Nihar Ranjan Paul, former president of the committee. Poet, writer and senior journalist Atin Das was selected as the new president of the working committee.

Biplob Paul will serve as the general secretary of the newly formed committee. Other members of the committee include Dr M Shanti Kumar Singh, Shankar Dey, Himashish Bhattacharjee. Bahar Uddin Choudhury, Satadal Acharjee and Sujaya Bhattacharjee were made the assistant secretaries. Partha Sarathi Dey was selected as the treasurer and Santosh Chanda was made the cultural secretary. Mita Das Purkayastha and Gautam Talukdar were assigned to serve as public relations officers.

In addition to these members, other members were also included in the advisory board. Speakers at the meeting put stress on the importance and essence of releasing new books every evening during the fair. Members of the new committee will collaborate and coordinate with authors and publishing houses. This time plans are up for organizing the fair in an out of the box fashion. It will offer the readers choice to buy books of publishers and authors from across the country and aboard.
