Silchar celebrates Janmasthami

Silchar, Aug 26: Janmasthami, the birthday of Lord Krish, a central figure of the Hindu mythology, has been celebrated with great enthusiasm and devotion. Despite showers of rain and incessant drizzling, people braved the weather and came out in large numbers. Every year the tradition of celebrating the Lord’s birthday, also known as ‘Gokulashtami’ and ‘Krish Jayanti’, is being followed with great pomp and show. People visit temples and akhras of Lord Krish, which remains adorned with beautiful decorations and lightings.

At Silchar, people were seen making a beeline in front of various temples and akhras to take blessings form Gopal, the baby Lord Krish. Devotees dance around and sing the legend of the Lord. In addition to this, Prasad is also distributed for the devotees. The birthday of Lord Krish is celebrated on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the Krish Paksha (dark fortnight) of the month of Shraava according to the Hindu calendar.

 Like, every year, the Intertiol Society for Krish Consciousness (ISKCON), Silchar, wore a splendour look as it was decorated with meticulous creativity. Celebrations were also held at Shyam Sundar Akhra, Radha Madhab Akhra, Gouriya Math, rsing Akhra, and Gopal Akhra. Streets were looking beautiful and a large number of children were seen dressed up as Lord Krish. Devotees at ISKCON were deeply absorbed in singing hymns and dancing on the floor in unison. A large number of people were busy in offering sweetmeats, dahi and other edible items to the Lord. The ambience was filled up with hymns which added up to the devotiol level. The night was dipped in devotiol songs in praise of the Lord. Another part of the celebration was the participation of kids in becoming Lord Krish. It was highly applauded by the devotees in general. At Shyam Sundar Akhra in the heart of this town, one of the kids Ishani Dasgupta as Lord Krish attracted the attention of all present.
