Silchar Congress felicitates MP Sushmita Dev

From our correspondent

Silchar, Oct 28: The Silchar District Congress Committee on Saturday felicitated the newly appointed president of All India Mahila Congress at a general meeting held at Rajiv Bhawan at Silchar.
Speaking at the meeting, the president of All India Mahila Congress said, “People should not participate in the upcoming ‘mami Barak’ until and unless steps are taken to solve the embankment issues of River Barak. This is indeed shameful that no concrete steps have been taken in this regard. Residents of Barak shore are living in the constant fear of being washed away. Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal questioned on what Congress had done over the decades. However, what has he done? During mami Barak, we should ask him regarding the five bridges over River Barak that he promised.”
A large number of organizations along with the Congress committee, block Congress committees, NSUI and others felicitated her and showered her with gifts and Uttorioyos for her outstanding feat.
Later, taking a dig at the present government, she said, “Roadways, offices, transport and communication of Barak Valley has seen very less development. Nothing concrete has been done by the BJP. We have accomplished everything. What is the use of a broad gauge if trains run at the rate of 40 km per hour? It should run at the speed of 100 km per hour. Rs.400 crores project has been sanctioned for Brahmaputra River. Our CM should announce a similar project for Barak River during mami Barak.”
“We want development of Barak Valley in all aspects. I urged our CM and Minister of Water Resources and Science and Technology Keshab Mahanta to bring such huge projects for River Barak. Till now no such projects have been declared. Moreover, the issue of ‘OI’ and ‘NOI’ has been haunting the minds of the people,” said Sushmita Dev.
Sushmita Dev also questioned Prime Minister rendra Modi’s silence on the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Parliament. “It is clear that RSS is anti women and this mindset is not at all good. RSS does not believe in the empowerment of women. There are various discrepancies in distribution of gas connections under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yoja. The BJP can only promise nothing else. Where is 24 hours supply of electricity and 25 lakh jobs for the people of Barak Valley?,” she said.
“GST has affected the lives and profession of Indian business. Congress also supports one tion, one tax. It should be fixed at 18 per cent. Prime Minister said that he would bring in more developmental works with taxed money. But development is nowhere to be seen. Why so much taxed has been levied?,” Sushmita added. “Women power can make Congress a winner in the next elections,” the MP added to say. She urged upon the supporters, especially women, to unite and fight hard till the Congress emerges victorious in the end.
