Silchar, Jan 27: Deputy Commissioner of Cachar Dr S Lakshman stressed the need of a corruption free administration during his speech as the chief guest on the Republic Day celebration at Police Parade Ground here on Friday.
When a South Indian non Bengali Deputy Commissioner delivers a well scripted Republic Day speech in Bengali, it involuntarily connects and bounds with the people and transcends the boundaries of time and space.
Lakshman said it is an auspicious and historic day for the people of this country and threw light on the history and significance of the Day.
Paying rich verbal tributes to the great sons of India Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Pt Jawaharlal Nehru and Dr B R Ambedkar, the Cachar DC said, “Our independent lives are indebted to those freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the sake of the country’s freedom. Our country will scale new heights if her citizens realize the importance of this Day. Adoption of principles of unity, peace, mutual understanding, trust and cooperation are inevitable for progress and development of a country. One has to adhere to the principles enshrined in the Constitution”.
“Every citizen of this country has the equal rights. In addition to gratification of these rights, it is also our duty to act according to the Fundamental Duties mentioned in the Constitution of India. Government should also serve its people. Prime Minister rendra Modi’s mantra of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Bikash’ has worked like magic,” DC Cachar added.
“Assam is in no way lagging behind other States of the country. Remarkable changes have been seen in all aspects. Many development schemes, plans and programmes are being formulated and implemented,” he said.
Distribution of various cards to the farmers and provision of facilities to the beneficiaries are on the rise. Chief Minister of Assam is very keen on the development of this State. Development in all respects is taking place. From opening of zero balance account to provision of civic amenities to the poor and the underprivileged, everything has been well attended by the Government of Assam,” Lakshman said.
Earlier, DC Cachar hoisted the tiol Flag at 9 am which was followed by combined parade of CRPF, 6th AP Battalion, District Police, Traffic Police, Homeguards and NCC Scouts and Guides.
