Silchar march towards JK Barooah Cricket title

GUWAHATI, April 11: Rode on two brilliant performances from Abhisekh Thakuri and Rahul Singh, Silchar marched one step forward to lift the JK Barooah U-19 Inter District Cricket title against Lakhimpur at Mangaldoi today. Abhisekh scored century while Rahul took 9 wickets in the first innings. Chasing Silchar's first innings total of 256, Lakhimpur bowled out paltry 33 runs in their first innings. Lakhimpur were 8-0 in their second innings at stumps after forced to follow on.

There were altogether three cricketers who performed brilliantly today in the game. The third cricketer was Hrishikesh Borah from Lakhimpur who picked up 7 wickets in the first innings giving away 62 runs. But Hrishikesh's performance went in vain as his teammates failed to put similar effort in the game on first day.

Elected to bat, Silchar made solid start in the fil adding 186 runs in the first wicket partnership between Abhisekh Thakuri and Biy Krish Saha. However once the partnership were broken Hrishikesh Borah ran through Silchar's innings and the entire team were bowled out 256 runs. Abhisekh took 116 balls to play the 112 runs innings with the help of 18 boundaries and three sixes. Biy got out on 58 and he hit 7 boudaries in his 131 balls innings.

Later Rahul alone smashed the innings of Lakhimpur picking 9 wickets giving away only 8 runs in his 12 overs spell.  Entire team were bowled out 33 runs in 23.2 overs. Rubul Gogoi (16) was the lone batsman in the team who scored double figure runs. Lakhimpur were 8-0 in their second innings after forced to follow on.
