Silchar police b drug peddler, seize consignment

Silchar, May 8: The Silchar police, in a operation led by DSP (Probatiory) Partha Potim Saikia and town sub-inspector Champak Saikia on Tuesday night arrested a drug peddler, Bapan Hussain Laskar alias Sahazuddin Laskar (23), near Vivekanda Cooperative, Meherpur area. They recovered a 28 gram drugs consignment, suspected to be heroin from the arrested person. Police sources said that the market value of the drugs seized is around Rs.1.5 lakh. The accused is origilly from New Ramgar of Soi area was staying in Zakir Husain Barbhuiya’s house as a tent. The police have registered a case u/s 21 of IPC against the accused. Later they produced the accused in the Silchar Special Court on Wednesday where Justice Kamalendu Choudhury remanded him to police custody for three days. Bapan Husain Laskar is now under the custody of Amar Ghosh, in-charge Rangirkhari outpost, for further interrogation.
