Silchar VHP welcomes Centre's move for protection of Hindus

FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT

SILCHAR, Sept 8: The rendra Modi led NDA Government has issued two Notifications to grant relief to the refugees who have come to India on or before December 31, 2014 from their tive lands of Bangladesh, erstwhile East Pakistan, due to religious persecution. The Notifications issued by the Centre in its Official Gazette under the Passport (Entry into India) Act of 1920 and the Foreigners’ Act of 1946 have been welcomed by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) of Barak Valley today.

Speaking to the media, Pur Chandra Mandal, an important functiory of VHP, said rendra Modi has fulfilled the promise he made at Ramgar poll rally last year to the effect that citizenship would be provided to the uprooted religious minorities if the BJP comes to power. The VHP and all likeminded organizations supported the decision taken by the Centre. He criticized the Congress led Assam Government for harassing the innocent Hindus in the me of ‘D’ voters. He demanded that the Hindus under detention should be released immediately. He further reiterated that the Muslims who have migrated illegally should be sent to detention camps and pushed back across the border.

Dharmanda Deb, advocate, pointed out that in the year 1971 the total population of the newly created Bangladesh was 3.22 crore out which 92.3 lakh people were Hindus. But now, out of the present 12.6 crore total population of Bangladesh only 1.2 crore are Hindus. The ratio of Hindus in the total population has gone down alarmingly in the Muslim majority tion due to religious persecution and forceful conversion of the minorities. These were the viewpoints of the VHP leaders and workers who spoke to the media in a press-meet held at Gobindabari VHP office here today. Others who spoke included Subrata Deb and Gopal Bhattacharjee.

In the meantime, BJP Cachar district unit also held a press-meet in its party office at Itkhola today. Welcoming the initiative taken by the Modi Government, Kabindra Purkayastha, former Union Minister and MP, said that the BJP since its inception has been fighting for the rights of the partition victims particularly the Hindu Bengalis who were uprooted from their tive lands. He alleged that the Congress never took any concrete steps in this regard.

Awadhesh Singh, BJP state spokesperson, criticized the Congress particularly the Dev family for politicizing the issue for their vested interests. He said that the BJP Government is taking all positive actions and measures to safeguard the interests of migrated Hindu Bengalis, victims of partition. It should be mentioned that the Congress led UPA Government in its last tenure from 2009 to 2014 had issued only 1023 long term visas to refugees while the Modi led NDA Government has issued over 4300 long term visas to victims of religious persecution in the past 1 year alone.

Kaushik Rai, BJP Cachar district president, added to say that the present NDA Government is working for the welfare of all sections of Indians. The Centre will soon introduce a Bill in the Parliament to grant citizenship rights to the aggrieved partition victims. Dilip Paul, MLA of Silchar, said that Congress party allowed the issue to remain unsolved for almost 70 long years for meeting its rrow political ends and for polarization among the people. Parimal Suklabaidya, former MLA, described the Notifications as a stepping stone to the passage for the grant of citizenship to the Hindu Bengalis and other religious minorities.
