Silver jubilee celebration of PGMSCC concludes

Bongaigaon, Nov 5:  “Culture is the backbone of a society. The society which does not have its own culture, does not have any existence also,” said Rakhal Das Gupta, president of All India Railwaymen’s Federation and general secretary of NF Railway Mazdoor Union, on Sunday after paying floral tribute to the portrait of Dr Bhupen Hazarika. He said this in the open session of the silver jubilee celebration of Priya Gupta Memorial Socio Cultural Society where Dr Bhupen Hazarika was paid floral tribute.

 He said that Bhupen Hazarika was a singer of the labour class people. “Every song of Bhupen Hazarika reflects the life of common people. He was the real friend of labour class people,” he said. This was the second and last day of the silver jubilee programme of PGMSCC where several competitions were held among the students. Mriganka Sekhar Choudhury, secretary of the reception committee, said that a multilingual poet meet was held where several renowned poets had participated.

  “It was iugurated by Kabyashree Mukunda Sarma and conducted by renowned poet Qazi Swamim and writer Moromi Borthakur Talukdar. The open meeting was presided over by Dr Prab Kumar Dhar where several noted persons, including Rakhal Das Gupta, Mukunda Sarma, and Ashish Biswas delivered lecture on the life of Priya Gupta,” he said.
