'Single largest party should be invited to form government in M'laya'

 From our Correspondent

KOKRAJHAR, March 5: The president of the United People’s Party, Liberal (UPPL), Urkhao Gwra Brahma on Monday asserted that the party which won the highest number of seats in the recently declared results of assembly elections in Meghalaya, Tripura and galand should have been invited to form the government as a democratic tradition but it seemed to be different in Meghalaya.
Talking to media persons, Brahma said Congress was the single largest majority in the recently-concluded election in Meghalaya but the party did not get the first chance to stake claim to form government. Instead the Governor invited NPP which was second largest party along with other parties.
He said, “I am neither against the formation of government with BJP and other parties nor supporter of Congress but simply want to protect the democratic tradition of the country.” He also said there should not be violation of democratic norms and as per norm, the party which got absolute majority should be invited to stake claim to form government and the party which got second highest number of seats should be given chance if the former failed to show strength.
Brahma said there was nothing to say in Tripura but in galand too, the magic number was critical to stake claim to form the government. In galand, both NDPP and BJP were invited to stain claim to form the government as both had equal number of seats but in Meghalaya, the Congress should have been given first chance, he asserted.
