From a correspondent

Agartala, Dec 26  :  Tripura is all set to witness massive political activities as the ruling CPI(M) and their main rival BJP will be officially launching their election campaign for the forthcoming Assembly election scheduled to be held in February next.

General Secretary of the CPI (M) Sitaram Yechury and Assam’s Fince Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is the in-charge of the BJP for the election in the State, will be leading their respective parties for the ‘battle of ballot’ in Tripura.

The BJP has planned to launch a ‘carpet bombing’ campaign on December 27 when 25 ministers and MLA’s from Northeastern States will accompany Himanta Biswa Sarma for the campaign.

A spokesman of the party said all these leaders will fan out to different parts of the State and will participate in block level rallies. “Party workers and supporters from every Mandal will assemble at certain places from where these leaders will address the gathering,” he said adding that over two lakh people will participate in these processions.

Sarma himself will supervise the programme in Agartala and will also address a rally on the next day at Dhanpur, the constituency which is represented by Chief Minister Manik Sarkar.

However, the ruling CPI(M) is also preparing for a befitting reply on December 31 as the party will be organizing a central rally at Agartala to be addressed by CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury and Chief Minister Manik Sarkar.

Central Committee member of the CPI(M) Gautam Das  said that over one lakh people is expected to attend the rally and the entire party, comprising the state committee to local and branch committees, has geared up to make this programme a grand success.
