Sivasagar administration holds meeting, appeals for harmony

SIVASAGAR, Aug 28: With a view to maintain peace and commul harmony in the district, Sivasagar district administration held discussions with the leaders of various organizations and senior citizens at Syukapha Conference Hall in the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Sivasagar recently.
Addressing the house, rayan Konwar, Deputy Commissioner, Sivasagar, in presence of Subodh Sonowal, Superintendent of Police, Sivasagar, said a circle of people were spreading misinformation and rumours in an effort to disrupt peace, tranquillity and commul harmony in the district. The district administration and police have vowed stringent action against any such attempts. The district administration sought collective support from the organizations and people to check the untoward incidents and restore peace and age-old commul harmony in the district and also appealed to people not to pay heed to any rumours or misleading news which might create disturbances.
Manirul Islam Bora, working president, Upper Assam Muslim Kalyan Parishad central committee, said that some miscreants had been trying to create disturbances in the district by giving commul colours to some recent incidents. “Miscreants do not belong to any caste or community and their activities should be rejected. The people of Sivasagar have been maintaining peace and will continue doing so,” said Bora.
