SIVASAGAR, July 2: Sivasagar, a land full of historical monuments, which was granted district-hood on July 1, 1983, on Friday completed its 34th district-hood day. On this joyous occasion, the Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar Virendra Mittal, elucidated a few words regarding the development of the district.
He said that Sivasagar had made step-by-step progress and was trying to rise to the expectations and aspirations of its people. He also mentioned that the synergic efforts of the honest and hard working people, far-sightedness of the officials of district administration and effective developmental policies and programmes were the essence in taking the district to a greater height of development.
In his speech, he thanked the former Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar, SS Meekshi Sundaram, who took the initiative to celebrate the day during his tenure in 2014 with an aim to accelerate the pace of development of the district.
On the day of the occasion, a huge crowd gathered at the Yuva Dol, which included senior officials from police department, senior citizens of Sivasagar, freedom fighters, leaders and representatives of different organizations and people of Sivasagar, to witness the colourful cultural presentations by artistes (girls and women only) from different parts of the district, flag hoisting at Sivasagar Divas Smarak, distribution of food and other articles at District jail, Swaplaya and Koumudalaya, a canvas painting involving the students of different art schools at the western bank of Sivasagar tank, heritage walk for health around Sivasagar tank, lighting of earthen lamps and many more, which marked the celebration of the District-hood Day.
