Sivasagar celebrates foundation day

SIVASAGAR, July 1: Sivasagar, a land full of historical monuments, which was granted district-hood on July 1, 1983, on Sunday celebrated her district-hood day. On this joyous occasion the Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar, Pallav Gopal Jha, elucidated a few words regarding the development of the district. He said that Sivasagar had made step-by-step progress and was trying to rise to the expectations and aspirations of its people. He also mentioned that the synergic efforts of the honest and hard-working people, far-sightedness of the officials of district administration and effective developmental policies and programmes were the essence in taking the district to a greater height of development. In his speech, Jha appealed to all the people to come forward and provide their assistance and support to district administration to accelerate the pace of development of the district.

On the occasion, a huge crowd gathered at the DC’s office premises, which included senior officials from district administration and police department, senior citizens, freedom fighters, leaders and representatives of different organizations and people of Sivasagar. The celebration kicked off with flag hoisting at Sivasagar Divas smarak by the Deputy Commissioner. This was followed by plantation drive at the DC’s office premises. The Deputy Commissioner let the drive to start with a kid named Sparsh Dey. Pada yatra and distribution of food at the District Jail were part of the celebration of the day. With lighting of earthen lamps around the historic Borpukhuri, the celebration of the district-hood day function came to the end.
