Sivasagar celebrates I-Day with zeal

SIVASAGAR, August 16: The 70th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm in every nook and corner of Sivasagar district on Monday. The tricolour was hoisted and sweets were distributed at many places. The occasion was also marked by the distribution of welfare assistances, prizes, awards, blood dotion camps, plantation drives, awareness drives, street plays, cultural programmes and even free lunch.

The Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner, rayan Konwar hoisted the tiol flag at the Boarding Field. He accepted the guard of honour given by the CISF, Assam Police, Scout and NCC cadets, school students, members of different organizations and general public in the parade in the backdrop of band music played by the Band Platoon of 1st APBN, Ligiripukhuri, zira. The Deputy Commissioner also iugurated a photo exhibition on freedom fighters organized by the district administration in the field.

The Deputy Commissioner honoured the freedom fighters, distributed awards and prizes to government servants, police personnel, farmers, sportspersons, students for their exemplary performances, including the Chief Minister’s Best Community Action Award for development to Saurav Bhagawati. Khirud Changmai, one of the zarat staff in the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Sivasagar, was one among those who were honoured. Simultaneously, Anil Bora, zir of the DC’s office, was also felicitated by a Sivasagar-based leading NGO, Humrahi for his dedicated service as administrative personnel on the occasion of Independence Day.

Earlier, the three day-long celebration of 70th Independence Day kicked off with yoga display at the office premises of DC’s Office on August 13, followed by various other programmes which include cleanliness drive, plantation of medicil plants, bicycle rally, competitions and street plays. A cultural function was also organized on August 14 alongwith various other programmes.
